Biofuel as Alternative Fuel Source
Want to know more about biofuel as an alternative fuel source? This article provides some information on biofuel and alternative sources of fuel:
With the rising cost of petroleum and the increasing dependence of various countries on expensive and hard to procure fossil fuels, biofuel is being considered as an important alternative source of fuel. Biofuel is produced essentially from organic matter. Organic matter is converted into energy resulting to a viable alternative for fossil fuels. It can be used for power, motive, and thermal generation.
Benefits of using biofuel as alternative fuel source
There are many benefits in using biofuel as an alternative source of fuel. One of the biggest advantages is the lower cost of production for biofuels. Basically, there is no need for the importation of expensive fossil fuels. The prices of crude oil is known to fluctuate on a regular basis, and the increasing prices on the worldwide market often translates to high cost. Since biofuels are derived from organic matter such as plant and animal waste, it is generally a cheaper and more sustainable type of fuel source.
Furthermore, biofuel is biodegradable, since they are processed using organic or natural materials. Its combustion does not produce harmful emissions which can wreak havoc on the environment. This results in lesser air, land, and water pollution. The absence of carbon emissions minimizes pollution and results to clearer air. In fact actual studies have shown how the use of biofuels actually reduce air pollution, without affecting fuel economy.
Reputable universities like the University of Idaho has been conducting studies and research as to the viability of biodiesel to provide science-backed information to individuals and groups involved in the production and consumption of biodiesel.
Production of biofuel
It is no secret how carbon emissions from crude oil production and fossil fuel consumption all add to the growing alarm on greenhouse gases and its direct influence on global warming. Due to this, governments and corporations all over the world are involved in the promotion and production of biofuel as a way to deal with harmful green-house emissions and to mitigate the threatening effects of global warming. Although the production of biofuel, and more specifically biodiesel, is still at an early or experimental stage and that the output is still relatively low compared to crude oil production, efforts are already underway to improve its manner of production, distribution, and consumption. In the area of biodiesel production for example, both small-scale and big-scale producers have ongoing tests and production test-runs on this alternative fuel source, with the intention of producing a more environmentally viable source of energy.
Due to the world’s growing concern on global warming and pollution, biofuel as an alternative fuel source is being looked into as a positive and long-term solution. An environment-friendly lifestyle is one of the biggest thrusts of biofuel consumption.
